Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
and do not lean on your own understanding.
In all your ways acknowledge him,
and he will make straight your paths.

Proverbs 3:5-6      What does the Lord desire from us individually and as a body in 2021? I believe that above all else, God desires for us, His children, to trust Him in every facet of our lives, and above every voice in our lives. These verses help us to unpack what trusting God looks like.

  1. Whole Heartedly – To trust God means that we have complete confidence that in following what God is asking us to do, will yield the best possible outcome.
  2. Not Leaning on My Understandings – By definition faith is required when I do not understand or see something clearly. Unfortunately, we quickly and easily forget that we truly only grasp a small portion of what is going on at any given moment, whereas God fully knows everything at everywhen. Therefore, He knows the best actions for you and me to make today, for the best outcome tomorrow. But this requires trusting God wholeheartedly.
  3. Acknowledge God in Everything – In all that we do, God wants all of our self to trust in all of Him. Am I walking with God in the little things? Have things gotten so routine in my life that I presume to know what’s best, what’s God will so I don’t even need to check with Him? You never know what God appointment the Lord may have lined up for us, when we simply walk in our own understanding of the day.

So when we fully trust God, don’t rely on our understanding, and acknowledge God in everything, we are assured that God will make straight our paths. So why don’t we trust God full even though we know better? We lack the deep relationship with Him. We have not deeply experienced  walking with Him, stepping out in faith to trust His provision when it contradicts our own understanding of the situation. My prayer and what I believe to be God’s desire for us individually and as a body this year is that we grow deeper in our relationship with God than we ever have before, so that out of it we can trust Him with everything, and see where the paths that He sets, takes us.
