REFLECTIONS FROM THE CHOIR TOUR

Each Monday evening during the school year the Bay County Christian Youth Choir (BCCYC) uses our church facility to prepare for their Christmas concerts and the songs that they will sing on their summer tour. Nevin and Gigi Zimmerman started this ministry 25 years ago in 1992 as a means to draw young people into a closer relationship with Jesus Christ. In addition to learning to sing together, the youth learn to speak in public, memorize scripture, study the Bible, and work together as a team in outreach through music and sharing God’s message of love through Jesus Christ.

Many of our Heritage youth have sung in the BCCYC in years past. This year Rebecca and Joshua Starke and David Holmes were able to tour with the BCCYC. David Holmes wrote the following letter to the other choir members about his experience this year.

Choir,

As I reflect on this year’s tour, I think of the lyrics of our signature closing song, “The Reason We Sing”

“He has brought us together, each of us a different gift to bring.

We’ll serve Him forever, even if the cost is everything.”

That I could even go on tour this year, I believe, was all a part of God’s plan. The manner in which this occurred was not what I had planned but I’m grateful it did so I could learn to be faithful through the uncertainties of life. I believe “He has brought us together” for a purpose. We all have different gifts; how will you use your gifts to serve Him?

But serving the Lord will have a cost. What “one thing” must you give up to come to the “end of me?”   Hold onto the God’s promise that your service to Him will be rewarded (Ephesians 6:7-8).

I had so much fun serving as college intern! Every homestay, concert, and, yes, even the bus rides, I will remember fondly as times we spent together, as choir members, friends, and brothers and sisters in Christ. I pray that through the message of the programs and songs, the hospitality of our homestays and host churches, the Bible studies on the bus or at camp, or whatever other means, the Lord would speak to you in a personal way and that you would shema with joy.

I will bless the Lord at all times; His praise shall continually be in my mouth. My soul makes its boast in the Lord; let the humble hear and be glad. Oh, magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt his name together! (Psalm 34:1-3)

“The reason we sing, the reason we life our voice, is more than just making harmony.

“The reason we sing is to praise the One Who gave His Son to be the reason we sing!”
